This is why you need to give 2TouchPOS a Good Look when you are sizing up POS systems. Part 2

8. Beware of a poor initial Set UP! Avoid the trash in, trash out formula....

Login 3.pngThere are many great point-of-sale systems out there. These systems can become mediocre when data input and standards aren’t set up correctly form the very beginning and then maintained. With the 2TouchPOS process, we get to know your establishment and build your system with your needs and processes considered. Where we need to narrow your format we suggest revisions. POS Software has the capability to turn raw data into meaningful information. The best example of this is the department/category/menu item structure that 2TouchPOS has built in. Categorizing your inventory this way allows you to quickly spot sales and inventory trends on the reports produced by the 2TouchPOS system.

Too many items, too much information can “Bog Down” your system. We suggest that you limit your system set up. At the very maximum; use the 10/10 rule. You should have no more than 10 departments and each of those departments should have no more than 10 Categories. If you think about it, even the largest businesses break their items down within these limits. It is a proven system implemented to regulate and ease the process of deciphering transaction data later on. At 2TouchPOS we use the menu hierarchy system, and implement the system set up using the 10/10 rule as a general practice.

9. Planning ahead for System Failure

In the POS World this is the most neglected rule of all. But when it happens once, establishments tend to become diligent about it. You rely on technology; there is no reason to ignore this any longer. Backing up a system is no longer a complicated process. Today, backups can be performed with the use of flash drives or cloud based backup services. We will let you know what we recommend for YOU when we strategize a process that will best suit your establishment.  As long as you have a good backup plan a disaster does not have to be catastrophic. If you’re not sure about this talk with the 2TouchPOS Account Manager about your solution.

10. Choosing the Wrong Point of Sale Partner

The Point of Sale Industry has always been very competitive; but only a few key players have sustained in the marketplace. Every year many companies enter POS arena and they leave just as quickly. System users are then stuck without support, and eventually have to choose a new system from a new company. To guard yourself against this, make sure to partner with a strong company dedicated to the Point of Sale Industry.

When you’re looking for a new POS System here are a few questions you should ask;

- Is point-of-sale the company’s primary business?

When software companies choose to expand their target market, they will often times view the POS system favourably due to the product demands. Many times the complexity of the market and the vertical requirements of each segment is not fully understood.  POS companies enter the market and leave once they suffer unsustainable losses. To protect yourself, make sure the focus of the company is primarily point-of-sale systems.

- Is the provider THE company or just a reseller of a product?

Some point-of-sale companies use a reseller or distributor model to sell their systems. The difference is staggering. The direct channel establishes a relationship between the retailer and the software vendor. Better support, quality, and expertise are the result. 2TouchPOS has a direct sales channel.

- What type of on-going support does your the System offer?

Support departments for POS systems are very different than consumer software products. Point of sale applications are mission critical. If a POS system is down, it literally costs the establishment money. At 2TouchPOS we encourage the “real time” support model. We have several technicians on schedule and it is and has been our goal to have them pick up the phone and assist you when you call. During peak time periods when several calls come in at once; we have a queue system where your call is answered  with an automated operator and then placed in a queue where the next call technician trouble shoots the problem and contacts the customer back.

- How is technical assistance implemented?

At 2TouchPOS we recognize that our establishments live and breathe the hospitality business not necessarily the technology business.  We think that you should be able to rely upon your point-of-sale provider to make sure that your system is set up and running at peak efficiency. And at 2touchPOS we are finding that our technicians can generally work with each establishment off site. When needed we can assign a technicians service to install a new system and troubleshoot any technical problems you may experience. If this service is needed it will be included in your quote.

- Do they offer training classes?

Training, we all know we get better with more of it. You can ensure you get the most out of your investment with on-going training. The POS provider you select should offer classes to help you gain efficiencies as your expertise on the point-of-sale system grows. At 2TouchPOS we have different modes of training. We begin our training with access to our online learning management system. As we get closer to finalizing your system, we offer technical staff support training. Our technical staff members show managers how to work in the 2TouchPOS environment.  When you have your soft opening we are there to provide support with our “go live” Technical Training.

- Do they have user groups and regular meetings?

2TouchPOS has a CEO Blog that identifies with 2TouchPOS users.  Presently we do not have a users group forum. However our goal as a company is to become more customer oriented.  If you think user group meetings are one of the best places to learn new ideas to see the newest features in the software, and network with your peers then let us know. Send us an email to info@2touchpos.com.

Measured by dollars, the technology investment made by an independent business owner is considerably less than other expenses. But if you measure the investment against annual revenues (i.e. percent of revenue), the comparison will reveal the return on investment. With the right POS system the ROI can be significant. Once understood, owners will approach their technology as a crucial investment. The technology decision is one the bar, club or restaurant owner will live with for many years. At 2touchPOS we recognize this and we’re here to provide our system and expertise for now and in your future.
