Restaurant Bottle Necks- Server Drink Orders

To Give the 2TouchPOS System a Try…… We can help organize your Drink Service!

Did you say my drinks are ready for pick up at the bar?  Really Now?  I have dinners ready in the kitchen and I’ve been double sat.  I have three tables to drop checks to and you can’t drop my drinks?

Hey, if they had 2TouchPOS when the drinks were ready, a runner could drop them off.  The drink prep ticket would tell a runner, B-Server or Busser what the drinks were, and which table they needed to be delivered to.  If you have a Floor Manager, they could help with that too!

Drink with Ticket.jpgThe service bar, can be a bottleneck.  Bartenders are torn between making drinks for the servers and working with their own customers. In terms of providing good service that can cause a “Bottle Neck”.  The Service Bar may be part of;  or entirely separate from the front bar. This is where servers order drinks from the bartender for delivery to guests seated at tables.

When you have a 2TouchPOS system the operation is synchronized for your staff creating a sequence of steps that capture data and translates that data into an actual menu item. It begins with the server placing the order adding the specific modifiers checking over what they have entered in the system and then, touching SEND. The order is then routed through the system to the appropriate preparation area. It is recommended that really busy bars should have a separate printer for the server orders.  This way if there are 2 bartenders on duty;  one can focus on preparing drinks for the server while the other has a more customer related focus.  The servers and table customers are taken care of, while both bartenders are earning tips.

Ticket Spindle.png
The service bartender reads each ticket as it is printed and then clusters the drink order with the server ticket so that each server knows which order is theirs,  what table it goes to and can have their order delivered if they are too busy to pick it up when it is ready!  When each order is ‘picked up’, the server can add their ticket to the spindle!  If you are a restaurant that matches tickets at the end of the night, using a spindle is one way to ensure that requisitions are saved. Then later you can match what was delivered to the table to what was on the final check when it was paid for.

Server Pick up.pngThis is general practice when you have 2TouchPOS in place and you are trying to make sure that your employees are completing every process they need to even when it is busy.  Proper training is key to increased delivery speed, with an efficient drink-making sequence being probably the most critical factor (start with the harder drinks first).  That is a different topic completely and really has to do with how experienced your bartenders really are.  Your main concern is to coach your staff.  Tell the servers and the bartenders that in order to get drinks they need to enter the orders into the 2TouchPOS system.  The service bartenders have to read the tickets and make the drinks according to how they are described on the printed requisition.  When we neglect to follow the process, it can cost restaurant owners money.

Servers must be trained to pick up drinks as quickly as possible both to maintain product quality and to ensure that the service bartender is able to continually serve drinks onto a clear bar without a problem.  Remember if your servers are slammed, another team member can read the ticket and pick up the order; then add the slip to the spindle so the server knows the order was delivered.

It’s all in the process, you’re going to get a 2TouchPOS system, and you’re going to make sure that when your customers sit at a table they get the same level of drink service that they would get sitting at the bar.
