For centuries people have been eating out at roadside inns, dining  together in dining halls, and earlier accounts have shown us people gathering for meals during feasts and holding up in ale houses.  The concept of organized dining has been around for centuries.  People began bartering for different foods and services then eventually giving payment for these prepared meals and ale.
